Cute, cute!

Thrift store PJs (since she's outgrowing hers at a scorching speed) and thrift store slippers...and could not possibly be any cuter if she made an effort!
Dangerously cute, I'd venture to say. The girl is a force of nature.

A clever woman

Doing something from Medea, I think. Don't worry, that's just spaghetti sauce on her shirt, not the blood of her hapless relatives. She just took advantage of the scene and ran with it.
Certainly Euripedes, wouldn't you say?
Aeschylus at the very least, circa maybe 450 bc? ...Though, come to think of it, this particular scene could as easily be from Hamlet. Out, out damned spot!!
But I'm still going with Euripedes. What do you think?
Does this not smack of a woman scorned? Rending her garments and all?

"Flow backward to your sources, sacred rivers,
And let the world's great order be reversed.
It is the thoughts of men that are deceitful,
Their pledges that are loose..."

Can't you just hear it?
Anyone? No?
Well, if you were neither an English major, a Classics major, nor a Drama major, just ignore me. All I'm saying, she's got quite the flare for theater when the mood takes her.

Our Town

In the interest of demystifying the dentist's office, my husband and I took Q to along to a recent family teeth-cleaning. Our dentist's office - rather stark and elegant, as you can see, is located in a section of Denver known as the Golden Triangle.
If you're wondering where the lovely soft-focus filter came from, it's steak grease. You heard me right, steak grease. The other night at dinner, the munchkin saw fit to plop my Coolpix facedown on a plate of freshly-grilled steak that we'd set in front of her during a recent dinner. It has mucked up the works a bit, but with the application of a little rubbing alcohol, it still serves its purpose.
Nearby in the Golden Triangle is one of my favorite stores in all of Denver - a modern/contemporary design venue called Kartell.
I know this isn't everyone's taste, but it's like catnip for us. Good thing we can't afford anything in the joint! (As you can see, Eames' classic rocker design was an instant hit with QQ. We had to physically remove her from its embrace. Is this nature or nurture? Hmmmmmm....

This lamp belongs in the lair of a mad scientist, no? Again, I realize this might not necessarily be a "plus" in everyone's book, but...we're crazy like that.
Nothing makes you forget a dental visit more quickly than a good design shop.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Just to give you an idea of what it looks like around here now...
The first late blizzard was kinda a novelty.

But by the time the third relapse of winter blew through town, it was getting really, really old.
This was what it looked like outside, if you could squint through the driving snow.
OOOF.
Yes, this IS a potty on my head. Why do you ask?
This is what cabin fever looks like up close.
(Don't worry, she hasn't actually started using it yet).
Daddy and Q reading out the storm on the couch.

While mommy un-buries the cars. By her own choice, let me just say. It's not easy getting exercise when the weather's this bad, and there's no upper-body workout like shoveling spring snow!

The morning after.
This snow cracked the windshield of my Subaru. I'm not happy about that, either.

The future's so bright....

No, Denver doesn't look like this anymore. We are waiting out yet another wave of snow and bitter wind. Cruel joke after our ridiculously mild winter. All these flowers are history.
Do you think we'll get a "second wave"?
I would like to know which blizzard is the last blizzard, because last night's snow killed my first tulip that was trying to open. I am NOT happy!
Figuring out the shades.

Dirty little baby foot.
She loves her tattoos from kid's day at the art museum. She wants us to admire them over and over, until they are but tattered remains of their former glory.
Our little pixie-cut Audrey Hepburn.
Actually, it's not a haircut. She just has pixie hair. It has never grown any more than this...though her eyebrows seem to be growing by the day! The girl has some spectacular brows.

Feeding geese

I'm sorry to keep skipping back and forth in time, here - but I found this series and realized I'd never posted it at the time. It's too good to miss. This was a couple months ago, before her second surgery. It was her first time feeding the geese by herself. She insisted - I didn't encourage this. I mean, geese can be kind of scary. They're tall, muscular, and pushy, and they have very strong, slightly serrated bills. And yes, they do snap your fingers. Sometimes a little hard.
But QQ begged and squealed and squinched her face at me, so I figured if she thought she could handle it, who was I to say no? I just stayed close and watched. And yes, apparently, she WAS up to it.
Look how thrilled and tickled she was after a goose finally got bold enough to come in for a nibble!
She did in fact let them take the cracker from her fingers a few times, snaps and all. Didn't phase her. My camera just wasn't fast enough to capture it, because those geese are in and out fast when they go for the fingers.
She was in quite the ecstatic mood after that first goose feeding, as you can see. And there have been many, many since.
Now that she's signing like a pro, she starts signing "duck" about two blocks from the lake, already getting worked up for her goose and duck feeding.
And yes, that is a heart drawn on her hand. Like I said, we're besotted.

photos taken

I had to add these two photos that a friend took of us at Esme's birthday party the other day. I like them.
Being told to do something that she's dubious about.
