Moving ahead

A few more signs of spring, from our morning coffee walk. By the way, That Girl, we live in Colorado, it's just our neighborhood is called Berkeley (and I'm fond of the name). I have spent plenty of time in Berkeley, CA, however, and loved it. And you may well see us in that neck of the woods when we have Flynn, so don't rule it out! We do like to make road trips to the coast.

And here it is, the painted room. Doesn't it look so different without the tape and tarping? The thing I love most about Flynn's room is that it's inherently the most beautifully-lit and serene room in the house. When the sun is out, the light in this room is positively poetic. I could not have asked for a better nursery setting. You just feel good when you're in that room. It holds a sense of well-being, and it is cradled between Mike's office, the livingroom, and our bedroom, giving it the feeling of being "in the heart" of the house.

I also love that it was built as a nursery, and you can see the thought and care that went into it. When the house was remodeled, and the new wing built, the family that we bought it from had just had a new baby, and the room was built accordingly, attached to the master bedroom with folding doors between for a smooth and natural transition.

The rug is a hand-loomed "giraffe" rug from W*rld M@rket. It's inspired by the mud hut murals of the Kassena district of Ghana, the same murals that inspired my African bathroom...yah, the one I can't ever photograph properly, but which brings me so much pleasure! (As you may have noticed, we don't often make our bed. Sorry, but that's who we are. I'm sure it pains my mother to this day. Sorry mum.) Stay tuned as my nursery remodel continues. This will be an ongoing project.

It looks beautiful, love the color and I am wild about the rug. Anything that has to do with Africa, draws me in. It is in my soul.

I am crying in my coffee... you don't live near me? I wanted to hang out in that sunny room all day.

sigh. I am geographically challenged!

I love the way the two colors work together... but you are an artist so that comes naturally to you. You are going to love rocking Flynn in that room on a cold winters day. It warms the soul!

How cute are you in your overalls and pig tails!

I had a nursery just off my mom and dad's bedroom as a baby very similar to yours (without the cool paint color or African rug though).

I love the room, the light, the color, the placement, the folding doors, the unmaid beds and the puppies rolling around.

I make (straighten) my bed about an hour before I sleep, when I turn on the heated mattress pad.

Oh... I like it... love the colour and noticed in earlier photos your room... I like the way it is 'connected' to your room... and yes... the room does look SO inviting... I am doing Shauna's a nice welcoming yellow... well, not to the point where it is over powering... but just nice and bright like it is a sunny room... take care

I have been a lurker on your blog for about 2 weeks. I just want you to know that I come to your blog & feel so inspired! I love your photography & your outlook on daily life.

I really think Flynn will be so happy & peaceful in her nursery. I love the color you have chosen!

For some reason I just wanted to post & say that I know you were feeling a little stressed, but you are such a refresher for me & I love to come here to see your beautiful blog!

Your tree picture came out much better than mine! A blue sky helps. And then there's the fact that I have inspiration but lack skill and a decent camera.

I always make my bed. Partially it's b/c it fools me into thinking the room is tidy when it really isn't, but mostly it's b/c I love the feeling of getting into a made-up bed at night. Everything feels so nice & smooth.

I'm so not even doing the PMS thing, but seeing her painted room and hearing about how it 'feels' (poetic), I got all teared UP over here. It's like I can already see her there. Hope you are starting to see her too.

I didn't know until reading these comments that you are a CCAI waiter. We were matched with both our daughters by Pam and Deniece. I hope you heart something soon. The nursery is beautiful.

oooh, the color and light in that room is divine. Would Flynn mind if I hung out in the corner? I promise I will be quiet...
