Introductions

I'm starting over. I was going to wait until we had a referral, and then start a new blog for Flynn. But once I learned how to design my own blog header, I couldn't wait. I like to take hold of the creative reins when I can, and the opportunity to control the look of our blog was too strong a temptation to resist. So I'm starting over.

This is me, the wanderer's daughter. But there are layers of meaning in the title. I am the child of wanders, and my mother is the child of wanderers, who are in turn...well, you get the picture. We are a family of travelers, peripatetic, energetic and adventurous.

When I met my husband, we both knew we were kindred souls. The wanderlust was in us both. We took our first roadtrip two months into the relationship, and it quickly became a tradition. We talked of taking our first really extensive trip abroad together to Asia. Little did we know that before we had a chance to plan that trip as a carefree, childless couple, we would find ourselves working and saving toward adopting our daughter from China.
We will take that trip to Asia, and it will serve as our honeymoon...albeit a long-delayed one. Since we married with adoption already in mind, we put our honeymoon fund straight into the adoption fund and never looked back. Little did we know quite how long we would wait for that trip to China, and for our daughter. But when we at last step off that plane, it will, I have no doubt, be well worth the wait.

I am going to start our new blog by reintroducing us and our family. So this is me. I am an illustrator and journalist. I recently illustrated my first children's book, a longtime ambition. I have worked as a newspaper reporter, a feature writer for magazines, an architectural illustrator. I have restored antique furniture and done some interior design. For most of my life, I have moved on an average of every two years. I have lived in roughly a dozen different states and countries. I've had an amazing life, and I feel very fortunate, which isn't to say that it has all been easy. But I believe in embracing life in all its terrible, sometimes frightening and often wonderous beauty. I believe in taking the ride, for all it's worth...in living the adventure. That's my story.
The rest of my family will follow.
Welcome to our blog.

What a great new beginning. I just hate how you outshine the rest of us... you're skinny, you have talent, looks and brains. And now hot shots of your chaps riding.
I'll stick around. What's in it for me?
