The China quake

I just wanted to say, for those who have been wondering, that, through another parent who adopted from QiuQiu's orphanage, we've received news from the orphanage director that all is well.
We have been following the intimate and emotional NPR coverage of the quake and its aftermath, and honestly (like so many other moms and moms-in-waiting) it has been affecting me on such a deep, visceral level that I have trouble even talking about it. Between the mothers keeping vigil outside the rubble of their children's school in the rain, and the parents searching desperately for any sign of their only child, I honestly can not even write about it without being brought to tears again. All of these natural disasters are devastating on such a human level, and there have been so many of them recently, but being so close to adopting our own child in China, this one has another facet for us.
It's a good thing, to feel these things on a deeper level. We should all feel them so deeply. We should all have the ability to feel in our own veins and in our own hearts the pain and plight of people in other parts of the world. It's important. And that kind of pain is hard to shake off.

I know how you feel. It has affected us deeply.

I cannot bring myself to watch some of the vigils, but I listen to BBC for the news on the quake and what is happening.

First of all, I am so thankful that Qiu Qiu's orphanage is safe. But, I know that is not enough because there are others that are not. I cannot imagine the grief and worry that you and others are feeling. I cannot imagine the pain of losing my only child. Once we became mothers i think we lost that ability to look at pain and suffering of another as different or foreign... at least i feel it on another level, now. I think that living in this country of priviledge many tend to fail to see the humanity in those that are suffering.

I can't imagine the devistation that these families feel or what they may be going through. It is beyond my comprehension how it might feel to be in their shoes! I have been trying to keep up with all that is going on there and it just rips me apart...
