Time's speeding up again!

I have to admit, things have gotten a little crazy around here, what with immigration paperwork, social workers, vaccinations, freelance work and book launch issues...so I have yet to find the time to put up the post I've been meaning to put up (lots and lots of pictures!) so here's a quick view of what's going on around the house instead. I just found that star that you can see on the wall...I've been wanting one of those, and just found them (for super cheap...bonus!) randomly today while running other errands. I got one for Flynn's room too. You can't tell in this picture but the allium we planted last fall are starting to open into big, round purple starburts, which is very exciting!

There's my star again. Yeah, I'm kinda into it! All of this is "the fun part" of the housecleaning we've been doing in preparation for hosting our new social worker, who will stop by tomorrow afternoon.

Our kitchen: cluttered but cozy. I like a kitchen that looks like it's used well. We enjoy our food and make a big deal of our meals, and it shows.

I threw Flynn's room together a bit hap-hazzardly for the benefit of the social worker. I haven't had time to get to either the canvases or the school desk, so instead I put up a poster of "Tintin au Tibet" which I particularly love.

I've been meaning to construct a closet rail to replace the middle shelf, so that I can hang all the pretty little dresses...but so far that project has also taken a back seat. I did manage to sort all of her clothes by age, however. An exercise which clearly demonstrated the fact that we have too many clothes for the 2T range, and not enough for the 9-12 month range. Sigh.

And on a completely unrelated note: DUCKIES!!!! The first baby ducklings of the year on Sloan's lake. PLUS...a turtle! It doesn't get any better than that.

Does it strike anyone else as strange that we have pelicans in Denver? I don't know where they go in the winter, but they come back every spring - eight of them. Always eight. I think it must be the same eight, and this lake must be their regular vacation home.

Here they are in front of the skyline. Odd, I tell you!

Love the star in Flynn's room and the cozy way your house welcomes you. The social worker will be pleased. I love duckies and turtles. The pelicans are clearly running away from the South Florida heat...LOL.

Ps: You have a red door like me. I love red doors. The first thing I did when I moved here was paint my door red.

I love the star too, I plan on purchasing one, we have them in our local nursery down the road. So if there's any $$ left after our flower purchase I'm going to treat myself to a star.
Your red door is beautiful, your home is so warm and welcoming, just like your personality.

Great star. Yeah-the pelicans. When I moved here, I lived for a couple of months with a relative in Thornton, waiting to close on my house. I was stunned to see the pelicans on the lake in her association. Then I saw them on RM Lake, and jb didn't believe me.
Apparently, they've been nesting here since at least 1900. Others stop on their way north, largely MN- which fits with the migration patterns of all of us Minnesotans in CO ; )

I would much rather vacation in Colorado than here in stifling Florida!

Fliss, you cracked me up, too!

Your house is wonderful and warm and welcoming. And beautiful. I just have to ask, is that rosemary in a pot in your kitchen (behind the flowers in the pitcher)? I love the smell of fresh rosemary, and Kerri just planted some rosemary seeds for our kitchen!
Have you started baby proofing yet? My favorite were the plastic electric socket things, that just plug into the wall. My next favorite were the locks for the cabinets that had cleaning supplies in them. And baby gates are great in keeping little ones in or poochies out of certain areas!

Flynn's room is wonderful. I want to go there to read a book.

I also love your red front door. Always wanted one of those....

Thanks for sharing the pics of your house. I mean your home: it feels good and cozy and warm just like you want it. Love Tintin! So many memories...

I really like the star too (and TinTin).

You know swans are mates for life and always return to the same spots too I think, maybe pelicans are the same?

Viv - yes, rosemary!! I love rosemary, thyme and lavender more than anything (when I was little and spending time in France these herbs were underfoot at every step...the smell was intoxicating!)

Juju and Tamara - Tinin is a great part of my childhood mythology, too. Has a place deep in my heart!
