Might I have a bit of earth?

I had to reference The Secret Garden in this post title, because it's such a wonderful book for anyone who has ever loved and been nourished by a garden. A book I grew up on.

Our second load of plants from Al's, the ones too big for the bike paniers!

Preparing the earth for my peonies.

New tomato plants, between the rose bushes.

My first peony.

Max, stopping to smell the roses.

Chocolate mint, one of the best smells in the world.

Thyme loves the climate and soil of Colorado.

Lucky Luciano, our lion guarding the house.

The end of a satisfying day of gardening.

Pelicans on the lake. Note the dog on the front of that speedboat!

Sunflowers outside Sunflower Market.

Twilight from our front door.

A Colorado sky.

M.'s smashed potatoes with basil...mmmmmmmmm!

The man knows how to put together a plate.

Thunderheads at sunset. This is the actual color - no photo filter was used!

My roses at sunset.

Home sweet home.

I am in love with your garden and with your beautiful home. Maia, one question: How do you keep such a beautiful garden with dogs?

I would just love to one day stroll up your front walkway and admire the incredible work, and meet you guys, and Qiu Qiu...

Beautiful, all of it, all of you.

Simply lovely! My husband and I were gardening today too. I planted my own little herb garden with some mint, dill, thyme, oregano, and sage.

Maia....you'd kill me if you saw what I did.
I intentionally plowed over all the rose bushes and flowery things out here :)

It was pretty, but we simply can barely maintain mowing let along flowey things that need care.

We have too much already animal wise sucking my time,
I couldn't cope with the plants sucking the rest.

Your garden is beautiful.
Your photo's are lovely, the sky in particular.
I love sky, maintenance free :)

totally blissful! boy Mike can come visit anytime, tell him to pack his knives! We love to eat more than we love to cook!

and, The Secret Garden, one of my all time favorites, I had three in one, TSG, The Little PRincess and little lord fauntleroy...I think I wore out the pages.

your garden by the way is divine. A tangle of natures most delightful, I cannot imagine how awesome it is to sit outside on a Sunday with coffee in hand(no lattes right), soaking up the sun and scent!

That was one thing I loved about Colorado... the flowers... I envy your garden... we have to dig up our lawn to get our septic repaired soon... so there goes my lawn... at least it gives me a chance to start over in that part at least... all plants are good plants but I miss 'flowers'... I love those 'cloud' photos... I love clouds... take care

The roses are breathtaking. Thank you for sharing the beauty of your home and neighborhood, and please pat Luciano the lion on the head for me (just for luck)!

I love gardens at this time of year, everything abloom or just about to be bursting with it.

Love the house at twilight image too.

What a beautiful place you have to come home to! It looks so comforting.
I saw a recipe for those potatoes on the pioneer woman website and made them last week - YUM!

I am with Kris, I think I need to plan a trip to Colorado. Your home looks so inviting, your garden so beautiful and Mike's food so yummy it sounds difficult not to want to stop by and share a little bit of your amazing life.
Nice shots! Delightful day. Thanks.

I'm jealous. My front yard is shade and my back yard looks like the surface of the moon with all the craters left by my three dogs (and two girls!). Luckily, we live across the street from a public rose garden so I get to enjoy the view.

Oh, those hot pink roses are stunning! I think I'm going to have to make a stop at Al's. I get about 90% of what I plant from my parents' garden, but a cheap local place to fill in the gaps would be perfect.

Beautiful shots and I, too, hold THE SECRET GARDEN in a special place in my heart - I actually re-read it about 2 years ago (grin).
