Aquarium

As most of you know, we love our aquarium, and have been looking forward for quite some time to bringing Flynn. Hard to say whether she's old enough to get much out of it....but babies are sponges, and somewhere in her little brain all these wonders are making little corners for themselves. Sealife - underwater life in general - was a big part of my early consciousness, and I want it to be there for her too. Living in landlocked (but beautiful) Colorado, this is the best we can do for the moment!

Starting with the river ecosystems.

As I'm sure is self-evident, this dad is smitten - totally and utterly mad about his little girl. I can just see all that love filling her up, putting color in her cheeks and a sparkle in her eye, rushing into the spaces that were left empty during the early months of her life.

A very cool image.

Waiting for the flash flood (QQ was interested but (as expected) undeterred by the lightening, thunder and roaring water!)

QQ's lounge-chair view of the overhead shark tank.

A nice mommy offered to take our picture all together. Sadly, my mum blinked...but I kept it anyway since it's the only one I have of all four of us in one shot!

Is it just me, or is anyone else fascinated with seahorses? I keep hearing that, as elaborate as they look, they are very simple creatures. Still, I can't get over the magic of their appearance. My mom can tell you about how very less than ideal they are as housepets, however, since I insisted on having a tank of them in gradeschool. That was an underwhelming experience. Not unlike the sea monkey episode.

Our little family. I'm fond of this picture.

So protective - I love the way he holds her.

This one's for Dick, my mum's partner-in-crime, who wanted us to pet the stingrays for him!

Even QQ tried...fearless as ever. Then she splashed in the tank. I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do that (and I bet the stingrays don't appreciate it) but she has only just learned to splash, and had to try it out. She managed to get stingray water all over her face and clothes, and had to be thoroughly swabbed down at the washing station.

The end of a successful first trip to the aquarium.
