Sooooooo sleepy.......

Poor Flynn has been subjected to our (cruel and unusual) efforts to get her on a regular schedule that will slowly but surely put her internal clock on US time. It ain't easy...for any of us! Mike doesn't like mornings, so he's got the late shift...which is no bargain, let me tell you! The only good part is that she has added an hour to the length of her night for the past two nights (so it has gone from two to five...knock on something!) I was looking forward to the early mornings, so I've got the early shift. My routine is to feed her a bottle and her medicine, burp her, then put her in the stroller and take her right out into the morning light for an hour or so of perusing the neighborhood.
Sounds nice...and it is nice...at least for me! Flynn doesn't enjoy it so much. All she wants to do at this point is go back to sleep. The jostling of the stroller on the sidewalk keeps her awake, and that makes her cranky.

This is the evil look she gave me when I tried to take a pretty picture of her - only slightly ameliorated by the bottle of nectar.

She was briefly distracted by the undeniable splendor of these sunflowers, but quickly went back to glaring daggers at me!

I have never been a morning person. My mother says I was a night owl even in the womb. But my mother has always touted the glories of early morning, and I've always envied her that time just a little. She rises before dawn - 5am or so - just because she likes to. One of the things I looked forward to about being a mom was getting to know this beautiful and peaceful time of day. And let me tell you, I have not been disappointed ! I'm loving it!! And every night when I go to sleep at an unnaturally early hour, I look forward to rising the next morning.

The following are a series of pictures I took of the beautiful a.m. around our neighborhood. You can see the late summer colors coming into play. How quickly the time passes! Seems like just yesterday I was photographing the spring bloom!....

Here's our beautiful girl in the afternoon...in a very different mood! She had a very happy afternoon...giggling and laughing and wrinkling her nose at us, and playing peek-a-boo.

This is just after her bath...look at that faux-hawk she's workin' on! Too funny. I didn't even notice it until I looked at the picture.

Oh, yeah. A much happier girl in the afternoon.

Mommy hasn't had a shower in about four days (fear not, she finally took one tonight), and can't remember the last time she brushed her hair. Mommy and Daddy are both still working on finding time for more than one meal a day. But Flynn has been adding food groups at a good pace (as long as we can puree it and put it in a bottle, she'll take just about anything...with the exception of carrots. Blech!) and has put on about 4 pounds. So we must be doing something right!

Yay on the weight gain! Especially when you figure that four pounds is quite a chunk considering her original weight! FF's FAVORITE drink in a bottle is a whole mango (peeled, de-stoned, and chopped, obviously), ice, and milk (like agua cremas in Mexico) ground up in the blender. Kid just slurps it down.

Ah yes. No showers. No eating. Early, early mornings and weird, late nights! You must be parents! I bet you're not peeing alone, either. I am very good at peeing with a baby in my lap. Sigh. FF recently started sleeping in late (like 9:30-10!) this summer - and it's bliss. But it will all end once school starts back up for Spike and we have to get him on the 8:30 bus.

You both look happy and beautiful. What a wonderful family!

That is a nice stroller. You two look perfect in that early light.

One day you will shower. One day.

Glad you are enjoying the mornings... I even dragged my butt out early to catch a sunrise... seems she is taking after her parents at being a night owl... you just don't know it yet but I will admit that early mornings are nice...

aaah the joys of parenting don't always include eating and bathing:)

Wish I could steal time in the a.m. but alas I am a night owl folding laundry and tidying up while my house sleeps....

Four pounds! Yippee!

Never fear you will eventually have time for regular hygiene, and, if you're like me, you'll give up on the early mornings. I tired, I really tired to become a morning person. And I failed, I really failed...

I was nodding and grinning while reading this post! I remember the early days so well. No shower. No time to brush teeth. Wearing the same ol stinky clothes for days! No sex! But, who the hell would want to have sex with no shower, stinky breath, dirty clothes! Hot. Lol. Ahh, but the memories. I would't trade them for anything in the world. Your schedule to get Flynn on US time is mild compared to ours. We fondly referred to it as Rony's Boot camp! We had the girls on a schedule in China and when they came home we kept them on the schedule. They were not to keen on cooperating and would cry for hours and then finally fall asleep in the weee wee hours of the morning only to have Jeff and I wake them up at 7:00am! The little cutie pies were begging for thier early morning naps with heads bobbing and barely able to keep their eyes open. They would suck their bottle down at 10:00am and sleep soundly. Within 7-10 days they were on our schedule. The girls are stil on the same schedule minus the morning nap! I think they might be weaning themselves from their afternoon nap. Darn... Takes a little work, but man has it paid off. They are such good little sleepers today.... stick with it girly. The best is yet to come.

Hugs to you and Mike.
